COLLAGE IS A TECHNIQUE THAT SPEAKS OF ITS TIME, WHERE THE AUTHOR USES MATERIALS TYPICAL OF THE ERA IN WHICH HE LIVES, FOR EXAMPLE, NEWSPAPER AND MAGAZINE CLIPPINGS. ALEKSANDR SAMODUROV MODIFIES THE COLLAGE TECHNIQUE, ADDING MOSAICISM AND USING MATERIALS OF HIS OWN TIME.
The 1990s contributed to the formation of a special culture of visuality and gave impetus to the ethics of deconstruction. Collage, as a way of thinking and self-expression, became popular among authors with postmodern consciousness. At that time, in the USSR, the country transitioning to a new system of social and economic relations, a new type of material intended for advertising activities, self-adhesive film, appeared.
The lack of choice of artistic materials led Aleksandr Samodurov, then engaged in artistic advertising, to an experiment. He began assembling artworks from scraps of film. By creating ready-made, the artist turned commercial design into an artistic system that exposed the phenomenon of his time.
